I, Manel, have been doing collage for a few years now, but honestly art has always been around me in some way. I didn’t really plan it, it just kind of happened naturally, and over time collage became my thing.
What I really like about it is how free it feels. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, you just mix, layer, cut, move things around until it feels right. The whole process is actually one of my favorite parts, it’s super satisfying to build something piece by piece like that. I mostly work with magazines and newspapers from different eras, so there’s always this mix of old and new, different textures, different vibes coming together. I also like to play around with surrealism a bit. Nothing too serious, but I enjoy creating weird or unexpected combinations, things that don’t really make sense at first but somehow still work together.
A lot of my inspiration comes from sports, especially football and Formula 1. I’ve always admired athletes, whether it’s drivers or football players, and collage became a way for me to express that. I like taking moments or visuals from those worlds and turning them into something more personal, something a bit more artistic than just the original image.
I just try to create visuals that feel alive and real in their own way, even if they’re made from completely different pieces, and let people describe it based on their visions, thoughts and emotions.
