Working occasionally under the alias Rebel Ally (an old moniker from his days as a college radio DJ), Justin B. Thompson is a self-taught artist with an eye as keen for chaos as for beauty. Although he began as a traditional pen-and-ink illustrator, his medium of choice in recent years has been analog collage, which has found a fitting home on album covers. As a high school history & music teacher by day, Thompson insists that each piece take on a sense of time and place while retaining a strangeness that is tethered to neither. A sharp sense of wit cuts through each piece like your favorite pair of scissors as the artist winks at the absurdity of human nature. Justin and his beloved chihuahua, GG, split their time between eastern and western Washington State, collecting supplies and inspiration along the way.

This collection represents some personal favorite pieces created over the last 5 years. I think the mounting anxieties of everyday life have somehow improved my art, made it more honest and confrontational. And it has made my desk and cutting mat an even more important refuge from those outside stressors.
